AW's competition ate our dust at Country

Our Club's efforts in Dubbo were off to a clean sweep in the pole vault.  Will Tyler took a familiar position atop the podium but a brand new face took out the 50-59 Men's: Gary Howlett in his first ever vaulting competition.  Montse Ros isn't a stranger to the top step either and her pole vault gold was her first of four across the weekend, picking up others in High, Long and Triple.

The only person to finish the Championships with a higher tally was Anthony Howlett, who incredibly won 10 of the 11 events that he contested.  His one "failure" was the last of those 11 events, just falling short of a clean golden sweep when he ended up with a silver in the 400m.  Poor Gary Hampton found himself a close spectator, taking out many of the minor medals in those events.

Kailee Moore had better luck on the track, scoring National Qualifiers on her way to victory in both the U17 100m and 100m Hurdles.  She also took out the Long Jump and collected a silver in the Triple.

Making her competitive debut for Athletics Wollongong was Isabelle Hampton, a former Australian rep at the World Para Championships in 2015.  Incredibly, her javelin performance here was just 10cm shy of the qualifying standard for the Tokyo Paralympics.  She'll be hoping to get over the line in the coming months.

Also in the javelin, Rodney Tebbutt won his first medal in AW colours, taking out the 40-49 Men's division after some close calls on the track.  And finally: Janna Hadaya took out a slew of bronze in the 400m, Shot Put and Javelin.

Dubbo usually has the least number of attending AW Competitors from among the possible hosting tracks.  Along with the concern regarding bushfires in the week prior, this meant it was one of the Club's smallest representations at a Country Championships in a long time.  Those who did go though had a great time and put on some wonderful performances.  Well done to you all!  :)
