As part of the registration system update, AW will have a new website. Both the www.aw.org.au and www.athleticswollongong.org.au addresses will redirect to it shortly, but we’ve been told it may take up to 48 hours to change over. In the meantime it looks like those addresses won’t work! If you want a sneak peak at our new site or need to access it in the meantime, you can do so through: www.revolutionise.com.au/athleticswollo/
The long winter months are over: Athletics Wollongong is back! Kicking off at 5:30pm at Beaton Park this Wednesday, our first week will be a combination warm-up, taster, intro, coaching, practice, and info night. The events to be contested will be posted to the AW Facebook Group on Sunday and follow the regular format of a throw and a jump for each age group, along with three track events over varying distances.
Pointscore will commence the following week (Oct 16th). Check out all details on the COMPETITION or CALENDAR pages and get excited!
To participate in any Athletics Wollongong Meet this season you either must:
Without satisfying one of the above points you will not be covered by insurance and organisers/officials may be at risk if something were to occur. We will not chance that risk.
We’ve heard from a number of people that there have been delays with ANSW processing their ActiveKids voucher. Our Registrar requests your details so that she can chase them up en masse, ahead of Club Competition commencing next week. Email athleticswollongong@gmail.com if you have been affected.
The track is scheduled to be cleaned following the upcoming Relay for Life event. From October 14th through to the 18th the track will be unavailable between 7am and 5pm. Stay tuned for updates from Beaton Park regarding its progress.
The Australian Masters Winter Throwing Championships return to Wollongong once again for the October long weekend. A number of AW members will be there, both as participants and part of the officiating team. We’ll also be running a BBQ to feed the hungry throwers. Spectators welcome – helpers even more so! Action will be on from 9:30am each day. Note that the infield will be inaccessible to other track users for the duration of competition.
Our Bunnings BBQ, raises funds for athlete support and we’re keen to start collecting names of helpers. If you can spare 2 hours between 8:30am and 4:30pm then email athleticswollongong@gmail.com now! Note that if you intend to apply for financial assistance this season there is a requirement to assist at a Club fundraising event. Why not this one?! Get it out of the way before there are any clashes with major competitions! We’ll also have a sign-up sheet on the noticeboard on Wednesday night, so get in quick!
James had previously been announced as an automatic Australian team selection but it’s now been confirmed that he’ll be competing in the T36 400m. He’s the reigning World Champion in that event, as well as the World Record holder (still to be ratified). We’ll all be cheering him on from afar in Dubai this November. Go, James!
There were incredible results at All-Schools: 31 Athletics Wollongong members participated, collectively returning with 9 Gold Medals, 4 Silver, 9 Bronze and three new Championship Records. All three of those records fell to Delta Amidzovski; a feat highlighted by Athletics NSW across all their social media.
Joining Delta atop the medal dais were Karlee Symonds, Rosie Tozer, Thomas Noakes, Tierney Dunne and Zoe Daniels. Also receiving minor medals were Eleanor Tozer, Gabriel Bickel, Lara Check, Rosie Boyland, Tayissa Buchanan and Teagan Berry. Full results will be uploaded to the Club website. Well done to all competitors!
Darwin was recent host of the National Champs for 10-12 year old school athletes. Charlize Colwell was part of the NSW team that won the 4x100m relay for Multi Class athletes, as well as competing in the 800m, Long Jump, Discus and Shot Put. Also there from AW were William Willis and Chelsy Wayne, who both contested the discus. What an experience!
If there are any electricians associated with the Club and willing to do us a favour, we’d love to hear from you. We require a couple of items to be Tested and Tagged at the track.
