Country Champions!

Published Sun 22 Jan 2023

The 2023 NSW Country Championships were a great success for Athletics Wollongong.

The club was belatedly presented the trophy for the 2021/22 ANSW Country Club of the Year, accepted by Club Captain and Registrar Peter Kidd.

And we showed our recent success wasn't a fluke, by retaining The Hooper Cup - the pointscore trophy associated with the Championships.

A number of records wouldn't survive facing AW members:

  • Chelsy Wayne took out the U20 Discus with a throw of 47.59m, breaking the record that went all the way back to 1980!
  • Mitchell O'Neill won the Open 200m in 21.47s, running 0.11s under the old mark, and
  • Cheyannah Hall improved her own record in the U14 Pole Vault, clearing 1.80m

Full results of our members are available HERE.

Well done to all of those who represented Athletics Wollongong and showed such great support of their teammates.

The NSW Country Championships are the best event on the ANSW calendar and we hope to see even greater representation at next year's edition!
