The Athletics Wollongong Gift was taken out by a thrower (!) making use of her handicap to run away in the handicapped 100m race. Masters athlete Natalie Heywood had her Christmas bills in mind as she stayed in front of the chasing pack, $100 richer with thanks to event sponsor Bump Products.
Second place (and $30) went to Oliver Rann, who's Dad had remarked in the heats that he'd never seen him run so fast: he did even better in the final! Defending Champion Olivia Sivills just caught Finn Harmer-Knight on the line to collect third place ($20).
From our winner Natalie Heywood: "Thanks for putting on a great race and for all the organising that went into it. Thanks to Dennis and bump products for sponsoring with their great prizes. The money I won will come in very handy at this time of year."
From our runner-up Callum's mum: "Thanks Athletics Wollongong. My son Oliver has never won a ribbon for any sporting event but has always tried and given it a go. The Wollongong gift provided him with an amazing opportunity and a higher chance to succeed. I love the look of determination on his face. Thanks."
There will be more handicapped races as the season progresses: the 60m Skins and Chocolate Run!
