With a view to Nationals....

Published Sat 18 Jan 2020

To be eligible to participate at certain events you'll need the correct membership with Athletics Wollongong:
  • Community - you can compete at our Wednesday meets
  • Club - as above + State Masters (if you're 30 or older)
  • Concession, Open or Dual - you can compete in everything
  • Volunteer - you can only spectate or officiate

If you need to upgrade your membership to a higher level, all you have to do is let us know.  Send an email to athleticswollongong@gmail.com with your name and the level you wish to upgrade to.  Upgrading will just cost you the difference between your existing membership level and the new one (+ 4.4% processing charge).  For pricing, see: https://www.athleticswollongong.org.au/registration/.  We'll send you an invoice and - once paid - your membership has been upgraded.  All done!

If Nationals are your target, note there has been a slight change to the selection rules for the NSW Team at the National Championships: don't get caught out!  (NB - this doesn't apply to Australian Masters, nor the National Combined Championships).

All athletes wishing to represent NSW at the 2020 Australian Athletics Championships must:
  • Be a minimum of 12 years of age as at 31 December 2020
  • Be a registered and financial member of Athletics NSW via an affiliated Club at the time of competition
  • Compete in the 2020 NSW Junior Athletics Championships (21st - 23rd February) or NSW Open Athletics Championships (7th - 9th March)
To qualify to compete for NSW in the Australian Athletics Championships, athletes must satisfy at least one of the following criteria:
Place First, Second or Third at:
  • NSW All Schools Athletics Championships (26th - 29th September 2019)
  • NSW Junior Athletics Championships (21st - 23rd February 2020)
  • NSW Open Athletics Championships (7th - 9th March 2020)
OR achieve the 2019/20 Athletics Australia National Entry Standard for the relevant age group and event.

You can see the Entry Standards and qualification period here:
Note that performances only qualify if they were at National Permitted events, see the list of eligible events at the NSW Team page here: https://www.nswathletics.org.au/nsw-state-teams/nationaltrackandfieldchampionships/

Finally, the draft timetable for Nationals was released last week here: https://www.athletics.com.au/news/australian-athletics-draft-timetable-available/

All the best with your efforts in making it to Nationals!

* - it will apply to very few of our members but if you live more than 200km away from Sydney Olympic Park you can apply for an exemption to this rule.
